SKYROCKETING FEEDSTOCK costs are undermining the chemical industry's long-term competitiveness. In response, the industry is searching for new tools to add to its existing areas of expertise in engineering, technology and marketing. Salvation could be in the form of price risk management, says Houston-based Enron Corp., which offers a broad range of financial services.

"Every major company in the chemical industry is taking a look at these tools as part of their tool box going forward," says John Nowlan, vice-president of Enron and CEO of Enron's Global Products business.
