The long-awaited renovation of Covington's Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center is about to become a reality.

The City Commission on Tuesday awarded a $1.66 million contract to HCG Construction of Cincinnati for the first phase of the work, which will include installation of an elevator in the 99-year-old building and construction of a handicapped-accessible connector between the arts center's gallery building and its theater.
