A stylistically unadventurous documentary directed by Betsy Blankenbaker based on journalist/novelist Dan Wakefield's memoir of the same name. The film is primarily focused on interviews with writers, actors, musicians, and actors. These range from the famous (Joan Didion, Robert Redford) to the merely well-connected (Helen Weaver, a writer who was one of Jack Kerouac's lovers). They were all part of an artistically and intellectually exciting Fifties Village scene during those supposedly bland, conformist Eisenhower years.
