ANCIENT Egypt's obsession with the afterlife has earned Hollywood's undying-gratitude over the years.

The mummy Imhotep, originally immortalised on film by Boris Karloff, rises from another cursed burial this week in a new movie The Mummy Returns.

But it's lucky for filmmakers that you can't libel the undead, for in reality Imhotep was one of ancient Egypt's most revered figures - a high priest, scientist, philosopher and demigod.
