RALEIGH -- The state Highway Patrol has parked more than 300 Ford cruisers after concerns that the cars may have steering problems at high speeds, a patrol officer said Sunday.

Col. E.W. Horton, the patrol commander, on Friday ordered the patrol to idle the 1996 Crown Victorias while the possible problems are checked out.

Troopers over the weekend used 1994 Ford and 1995 Chevrolet cruisers.
