Michel Fribourg, chairman emeritus of the ContiGroup Companies, died April 10 in New York, N.Y. He was 87.

During five decades as chairman and chief executive officer of Continental Grain, now ContiGroup Companies, Fribourg expanded his family's business into more than 70 countries and transformed Continental into one of the largest agribusiness firms in the world.

Born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1913, Fribourg spent his 63-year business career with Continental Grain, first in Europe and then in the U.S. He served as the company's CEO from 1944 to 1988 and as ...
