The Navy plans to eliminate 325 civilian jobs at Norfolk Naval Shipyard by August, the shipyard confirmed Wednesday.
The impending job cuts reflect the ongoing reduction in the shipyard's workload as the Navy fleet shrinks.
The cutback is part of a Navy-wide plan to eliminate 11,000 jobs at 240 facilities. The Navy expects to save $330 million in the current federal fiscal year and nearly $1 billion annually after that from the job reductions.
