The future of securities trading in the U.S. will be dependent largely on our ability to adopt new computer technologies and regulatory innovations. A computerized automated trading network, such as the one used by Japanese firms, operates with higher speed and greater efficiency. New basket trading products will also facilitate trading practices since they allow entire portfolios to be traded intact. Government regulations can have a positive influence on technological innovations if they are implemented to facilitate these positive changes.
