When you first arrive in Jamaica, you are quite likely to wonder what language is being spoken. Your guidebook says that English is the official language. If you eavesdrop on Jamaicans speaking with one another in the airport, though, you may not understand a word! However, by the end of your visit, your ears will be more attuned to the sounds and you, too, may be speaking "Jamaica talk." You will say "Irie" (EYE-ree), which means "All's well?" as if you have been saying it all your life.
