Compared with the human obstacles that nearly turned Colorado's greenback cutthroat trout belly up and still holds them back, their Continental Divide crossing was a minor blip.

In one of evolution's more amazing feats, the ancestors of the rare and beautiful trout managed to hop over tall mountains - from West Slope to East Slope and from one river drainage to the next - using ice dams as elevators.
