SANTA ANA, Calif. _ An instrument four football fields wide and more than a mile deep in the Antarctic ice has, for the first time, detected some of the strangest and most elusive particles in the universe _ high-energy neutrinos, which could offer glimpses of the first instants after the Big Bang.
