NASA Langley Research Center is working on a materials screening program for space structures use in the future. The growing dependence on satellites for everything from weather tracking to cellular phones means it's important to find materials that stand up to space conditions, says William Kinard, NASA Langley's senior research scientist.

NASA Langley, along with researchers from Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL, and Boeing, worked together on the Materials International Space Station Experiment, commonly called MISSE.
