Always looking for a different way to present a story-starter for my elementary students, I remembered some papier-mache bowls I saw in the book, Sculpture in Paper by Nicholas Roukes.

In the book, the author features several bowl-shaped art pieces. He suggests using the basket, or bowl in our case, as an example of "exploring different formats." He also writes that, "although baskets are generally considered utilitarian objects, with poetic license, they can be perceived as potent vehicles for symbolic expression.
