The cities of Tizayuca in Hidalgo state and Texcoco in Mexico state are in heated competition to convince federal authorities to locate the new Mexico City international airport in their community.

The Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) has promised a decision by June.

Former President Ernesto Zedillo's administration was thought to favor the Texcoco location, but delayed a decision to allow completion of studies on environmental impact, land- use, and other factors (see SourceMex, 1998-11-04 and 2000-05- 31).
