RAYON SUPPLIES PINCHED BY THE EXIT OF AVTEX
NEW YORK -- The departure of Avtex Fibers from rayon production, announced Monday, turned the supply screw even tighter on a market already wracked by world-wide fiber and fabric shortages and rising prices.
Avtex, the nation's largest producer of high wet modulus and regular staple rayon fibers, accounted for an estimated 175 million pounds out of a total market of some 460 million pounds -- about one-third of America's total supply of rayon.
