Ann Bancroft wasn't the only Minnesotan struggling with the weather in Antarctica this month; Woodbury lawyer Mark Kalla's quest to run a marathon on the frozen continent was hindered by heavy winds and snow.

But never underestimate the determination of a runner. When the captain of the ship decided it was unsafe to land, tour organizers came up with a solution: run 26.2 miles aboard the ship. It carried 100 runners who had paid thousands of dollars each for the opportunity to run on the continent.
