The latest chapter in the helicopter industry's continuing public acceptance saga ended well enough for rotorcraft enthusiasts: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials decided not to turn the airport's heliport into a parking lot.

The heliport instead will remain open; however, the victory may be short- lived: Airport officials say they again will consider closing down the facility in three or four years' time.
