SCIENCE, be it ever so rational, can always find room for a rousing myth. Unfortunately, Newton's apple, Archimedes's bath and Galileo's games on the tower of Pisa have not survived the scrutiny of modern historians. And Thomas Henry Huxley did not, by mighty rhetoric and incisive reason, wipe the floor with Bishop "Soapy" Samuel Wilberforce, when they debated Darwin's theory of evolution at the British Association's meeting in Oxford in 1860.
