Setting up shop as a taxidermist used to be a real bear.

Taxidermists already in the business were stingy with the secrets of mounting animal hides for display. They also worked with dangerous materials such as arsenic and formaldehyde.

Warren O'Toole, 52, of Gold Hill said he tried to pick up the trade as a boy 40 years ago but was unsuccessful.

"When I tried to learn it when I was a kid, the information wasn't as readily available," O'Toole said. ...
