On a sunny day last week on boardwalks and trails in the North Landing River Preserve, the true beauty of often maligned marshes and swamps was revealed.
Brilliant green marsh grasses and swamp plants formed the background for equally brilliant wildflowers. Butterflies flitted from flower to flower and blue, green and orange dragonflies darted back and forth, landing here and there on the very tips of the grasses. Katydids and frogs provided background music.
