NORFOLK -- The Navy plans to give away more than half of its highly touted patrol craft to the Coast Guard, despite the fact that the ships are less than 5 years old and cost some $10 million apiece.
Saying it needs the money it costs to operate the ships more than it needs the functions they provide, the Navy plans to transfer seven of its 13 Cyclone-class craft to the Coast Guard to aid in coastal law enforcement, officials said.
