WINDSOR -- A Yankee played a major role in building North Carolina.

Architect Alexander Jackson Davis, a New York City native, designed and renovated a number of exceptional buildings in the state, including improvements to the Capitol and designing the North Carolina Hospital For the Insane, now called the Dorothea Dix Hospital.

Visitors to the new Museum Room in the Roanoke-Chowan Heritage Center, on the Hope Plantation site, will see a variety of his architectural styles through reproductions of his drawings ...
