THE CHILDREN sat in a circle at Norfolk Naval Base's Child Day Care Center, waiting for Private Pickle.
They sang songs about their fingers. They sang of being happy and self-aware, and they clapped their hands. They sang of a farmer who had a dog named Bingo. Finally a woman strode from the staff lounge and stood before them.
``Good morning, everyone,'' she read from her script. ``My name is Janet, but for today you can call me the Pickle Woman.''
