SAN DIEGO -- - Last October, a day before the Reds were to open the Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Reds owner Marge Schott looked up at the center-field flag pole at Dodger Stadium and wondered aloud about the California state flag.
''Why is there a lion on that flag?'' she asked.
''That's a bear, Mrs. Schott,'' she was told. ''It's the state's insignia.'' ''That's a bear?'' she said. ''It doesn't look like a bear. It looks like a lion.''
