NEW YORK -- Say whatever else you want about investors in the U.S. stock market, they aren't easily intimidated.
Although stocks took a tumble Friday, the Dow Jones industrial average - the best-known of all the Wall Street indicators - has recovered much of the ground it lost since Oct. 27, when it took its worst point drop ever.
The Dow closed down 101.92 at 7,581.32 Friday, a drop of 1.3 percent, but a big improvement from midafternoon lows. Even with the loss, the Dow finished the week with a gain of 139 points.
