Q: What is heart arrhythmia? How serious is it and how is it treated?
A: Arrhythmia is a broad term that has come to mean abnormality in the rate and regularity of the heartbeat. ''Arrhythmia'' actually means ''without rhythm.''
Disrhythmia is the proper term for the condition but has been replaced in common usage by ''arrhythmia.''
About 90 percent of arrhythmias are harmless; about 5 percent are life-threatening.
