MOSCOW -- Viktor Chernomyrdin, nominated on Friday for another term as Russia's prime minister, is a tough political survivor who has clung to power for more than 3 1/2 years in troubled times.

Chernomyrdin, 58, has proved loyal to President Boris Yeltsin since the Kremlin leader made him his prime minister to replace radical reformer Yegor Gaidar in December 1992.
