Any predicament Bruce Ruffin faces on the mound, any harrowing save situation, is a comparatively mild worry.

His career has teetered on a precipice so many times that facing, say, Barry Bonds, Mike Piazza or Barry Larkin in the bottom of the ninth with the game on the line for the Colorado Rockies isn't going to rile Ruffin. What's the worst thing that can happen? A blown save? A loss? Pitching for his big-league life so often has conditioned Ruffin to fear nothing.
