WASHINGTON -- It took several phone calls from the White House and persuasion by Clinton friends before the Democratic National Committee hired John Huang, Huang's former boss told Senate investigators Wednesday.

President Clinton acknowledged during the NATO summit in Madrid, Spain, that he played a role, too.

Clinton is expected to come under new scrutiny today when the Senate panel probing campaign finance practices releases documents confirming his role in making fund-raising phone calls. The documents will also give ...
