LONGMONT -- A fifth-grade honor roll student has been expelled from school after she picked up her mother's lunch box by mistake and found a paring knife.

Shanon Borchardt Coslett, 10, thought she was doing the right thing Thursday when she found the knife and immediately reported it to a teacher at Twin Peaks Charter Academy.

``I took my mom's lunch box (by mistake),'' Shanon said, sobbing on the front steps of the school Thursday afternoon.
