Seven years ago a lone dolphin turned up in the waters close to the town of Nuweiba el Muzeina beside the Gulf of Aqaba, Egypt. For eight months, she followed the boat of a deaf Bedouin fisherman, Eide, who fed her from his daily catch. Over time, the villagers have become her substitute pod; while she has been seen with dolphins, she continues to visit her human family.

Uleen is a bottlenose dolphin. When she showed up at the Bedouin village of Nuweiba el Muzeina, she was skinny and had tooth, or raking, marks on her -- a sign that she had been rejected from her pod ...
