Dominion Energy, a subsidiary of Dominion in Richmond, Va., has agreed to acquire Cleveland Energy Resources, a company that provides steam and chilled water to about 100 big customers in downtown Cleveland.

The planned acquisition by Dominion, which is a supplier of electricity and natural gas, will raise its profile as a diversified energy marketer in Northeast Ohio just as the state prepares to permit competition in the electric business beginning Jan. 1.
