Nov. 1--United Mine Workers President Cecil Roberts on Tuesday blasted a Republican advertisement that attacks the Gore campaign's promises to protect black lung benefits for miners.
"This is an outright lie, and it reeks of the worst kind of campaign garbage," Roberts said.
"Bill Clinton and Al Gore have never cut funds to the Black Lung Disability Benefits Program, and I thank them for being so conscientious about not doing so -- as do thousands of coal miners afflicted with this horrible disease."
