Many consumers who are enrolled in a managed care plan have seen first-hand one component of the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set: a survey form that arrives in the mailbox a few weeks after visiting a doctor or a hospital.
The consumer evaluates a care experience by answering questions about an HMO's performance in areas such as customer service, access to care or claims processing, and returns the questionnaire to the plan's administrator.
In theory, the result is quantifiable patient satisfaction for the managed care plan and better care for the patient.
