Introduced in 1996 when vending machine manufacturers rolled out the first machines capable of carrying multiple configurations, 20-ounce bottles have begun to cannibalize 12-ounce cans in vending. Data collected from 5,000 cold beverage machines nationwide indicates that from June 1999 to June 2000, 20-ounce bottles gained market share, both in units and dollars.
