Silkworm Cocoon Scarcity Makes China Apparel, Fabric Prices Soar
HONG KONG (FNS)--Prices for China-made silk apparel fabrics and yarns have shot up substantially due to a shortage of silkworm cocoons, and should stay there for the next three quarters, traders estimate.
Prices for silk thermal underwear are up at least 20 percent. And other items using more silk yarns for apparel are up as much as 30 to 35 percent, traders say.
