MONTREAL -- Augmentation of labor with oxytocin does not make patients more uncomfortable, Dr. Shiv Sharma reported at the annual meeting of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology.
"It's generally believed that oxytocin causes more powerful contractions," translating into "the patient feeling more pain," Dr. Sharma said. But in a randomized study, oxytocin was found to make "no difference to pain scores."
