Feds: 'Condo King' kept $ flowing in jail.(News)

A crooked condo developer, convicted of defrauding banks out of millions, rebuilt his empire from his federal jail cell and hid the profits to avoid paying a $5 million restitution order, prosecutors charge.

Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Alberto yesterday brought suit against William Lilly, 54, known as the "Condo King" in the 1980s, to prove he has the money to pay.

The sides had negotiated for nearly a year, but couldn't come to an agreement.

Lilly's lawyer, Maria Durand, couldn't be reached for comment.
