Oct. 7--Eskimo Pie Corp. melted into history yesterday as the Richmond-based company became the property of Canada's CoolBrands International Inc.

The companies closed a $35.7 million sale that makes Eskimo Pie a subsidiary of CoolBrands, one of the world's largest frozen dessert companies. The sale ends Eskimo Pie's 78-year run as the maker of the chocolate-covered ice cream bar of the same name, and its history as a Richmond icon.

Eskimo Pie's shareholders approved the sale last month. Under the merger agreement, shareholders will receive $10.25 for each share. ...
