Children's talents tapped at Art in the Park.(Neighbor)

Imagine an 8-year-old experiencing an art form that dates back to ancient times.

Since the smelting of copper was developed about 4,000 B.C., people have been shaping it into decorative works of art by hammering, embossing, chasing, inlaying, gilding and more. The art of raising an ornamental design in relief from the reverse side is called embossing or repousse. Copper and tin repousse was one of the workshops held for children during the Art in the Park celebration Sept. 16-17.
