* Background.--Elastosis of the prostate may be seen on needle biopsy and radical prostatectomy specimens, but its significance is unknown. Prostatic atrophy (or postatrophic hyperplasia) is one of the most frequent mimics of prostatic adenocarcinoma.

Objective.--To observe the frequent occurrence of elastosis of the prostate stroma in areas of postatrophic hyperplasia.

Design.--A step-section method was used to cut the posterior lobe (or peripheral zone) in coronal planes...

Inflammatory atrophy of the prostate: Prevalence and significance
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; * Context.-Recently, prostatic atrophy associated with chronic inflammation has been linked to carcinoma either directly or indirectly by first developing into high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia. Objective.-The purpose of our study was to test this hypothesis in autopsies. Design.-A
Tobacco isolated as cause of skin aging
Dermatology Times ; Researchers look at what habit does to dermis of men and women Los Angeles - Researchers in The Netherlands who looked at nearly 1,000 patients added to the confirmation that smoking causes wrinkles and enhances skin aging in both sexes. They also found that smoking seems to wreak even more havoc
Reduced Annexin II Protein Expression in High-Grade Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Prostate Cancer
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; Context.-Annexin II is a calcium-dependent phospholipid binding protein that plays a role in many cellular functions, including apoptosis, signal transduction, and cellular motility. The protein is strongly expressed in normal prostatic epithelial glands, but its expression in benign prostatic
Linear focal elastosis: histopathologic diagnosis of an uncommon dermal elastosis.(Case Reports)
Journal of Drugs in Dermatology ; Abstract Background: Linear focal elastosis is an uncommon dermal elastosis that occurs predominantly on the back. Although first described in the lumbar region of elderly white men, more recent reports note similar findings on the trunk and limbs of adolescent Asian men. Methods: We present a
Penicillamine induced pseudoxanthoma elasticum with elastosis perforans serpiginosa
Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology ; Introduction D-penicillamine induced degenerative dermatoses include cutis laxa, anetoderma, pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), elastosis perforans serpiginosa (EPS), ecchymoses, and lymphangiectasis.[1] We are reporting a case of Wilson's disease under D-penicillamine therapy for the past 12 years

The Legacy of Laennec.
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; In 1816, the forerunner of the modern stethoscope came to be discovered in France. Before that time, physicians listened to the mysterious sounds of the heart by placing their ears directly on a patient's chest. The stethoscope of Rene Theophile Hyacinthe Laennec revolutionized the diagnosis of
PRECURSOR LESIONS OF PROSTATE CANCER
Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences ; Several morphological lesions have been proposed that may act as potential precursor lesions of prostate cancer. These are the morphologically distinct entities of focal atrophy or postatrophic hyperplasia (PAH), atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH) or adenosis, and prostatic intraepithelial
