Chonju, one of the nation's rich historic sites, will inaugurate an international film fest this month. The capital of Cholla-pukto will host the Chonju International Film Festival (CIFF) set for April 28-May 4.

Even though most people are not aware, Chonju is one of the cities which opened the chapter of Korean cinema.

As early as 1949, ``Disconnected Port'' was shot in the city, followed by a number of films, including ``Arirang'' in 1954 and Korea's first color film ``Sonhwa Princess'' in 1957.
