K-League champions the Suwon Blue Wings begin their quest for Asian supremacy in Kagoshima, Japan. Having breezed through the early rounds of the competition, Suwon face sterner opposition in the round-robin quarterfinal tournament.

The most obvious concern for coach Kim Ho is where the goals are going to come from. Having sold star striker Sasa to Japan's Kashiwa Reysol, and being unable to field new signings Hwang Sun-hong or Harry Castillo, who are not yet the required three months with the club, Suwon find themselves without a recognized goalscorer.
