EPA Awards Fire Suppressant Project.(Brief Article)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project to the Environmental Technology and Education Center (ETEC). The project will work to establish the feasibility of a "total flooding" fire suppressant agent. The new product has been given the name ETEC Agent A.

ETEC said Halon 1301 has been used for total flooding fire suppression until now in applications such as aircraft, computer rooms, and delicate equipment areas. Production of halons is now banned because of their ozone depletion potential (ODP).
