Board Approves Missouri Firms Proposal to Redevelop Stone Mountain, Ga., Park.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Sep. 19--The Stone Mountain Memorial Association has seen the future, and it's Branson, Mo.

By a unanimous vote, and over objections that Stone Mountain Park will be too commercialized, the park board on Monday gave Branson-based Silver Dollar City Inc. permission to proceed with a 10-year, $75 million redevelopment plan.

It includes an old-timey depot town, theaters, shops, an indoor roller coaster and other attractions to bring more people to the Confederate memorial park.

The park board approved all of the plan --- in concept, with stipulations. The board mandated ...
