TOKYO - Mitsubishi Motors Corp. President Katsuhiko Kawasoe was riding an elevator two weeks ago to the press conference at Japan's Transportation Ministry where he would admit the carmaker's hidden-recall scandal was more sweeping than previously thought. A reporter on the elevator noticed that Kawasoe's three-diamonds corporate lapel pin was upside down on his somber black suit.

Excusing himself, the reporter reached over and turned it right-side up. Kawasoe and his entourage laughed, then left the elevator.
