Pulsar discoveries set new pace for research.(The Dallas Morning News)

Astronomers have found a stellar toddler adrift in the ancient cosmos.

The star is a pulsar, a small, ultradense object that flashes X-ray pulses as it spins rapidly. Most known pulsars are hundreds of thousands or millions of years old, but the newfound one is just 700 years old _ a mere babe by astronomical standards.

Scientists have also discovered a second, much older pulsar that behaves like a tipsy adult, wobbling as it spins. It may be slightly squashed, scientists suspect, which would account for its imbalance.
