Boston Public Library Launches Television Advertising Campaign.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Sep. 5--Hoping to boost flat circulation and update a stodgy image, the Boston Public Library yesterday unveiled its first-ever TV ad campaign, perhaps the most ambitious marketing effort in its 152-year history.
With a new logo and the theme "Books are just the beginning," the multimedia outreach campaign strives for a quirky, irreverent tone. Some TV ads feature Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Peter Wolf, former singer for the J. Geils Band.
The ads, which look to give the BPL and its 26 neighborhood branches a consistent brand image, were created pro bono by Boston ad ...
