WEEKS LEAVING CITY COUNCIL FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION.(News)

Seattle City Councilman Tom Weeks is resigning after six years in public office to become executive director of human relations with Seattle Public Schools.

Weeks will oversee all school district personnel matters and is expected to play a pivotal role in upcoming contract negotiations with unions representing custodians and teachers.

As chairman of the council's Personnel and Labor Policy Committee, Weeks has tried for several years to forge new, more progressive relationships with City Hall unions at the same time he sought work-force efficiencies.
