When the gawdawful cold weather and a whole lot of people out there seem to be against you, nothing warms a striking picketer like an anonymous driver stopping and thrusting a $100 bill into your frozen hand.

You sure don't see that much. And it took John Persak, a 26-year-old West Seattle resident on sporadic picket duty there, quite by surprise early one morning this week.

Then again, you don't expect to see the Wobblies come back to life as a labor movement, even in West Seattle.
